Good company in a journey makes the way seem shorter. — Izaak Walton

As you enter Piazza San Marco for the first time on any visit you have to pause. Just pause and have a ‘freeze frame’ moment. This elegant square was reputedly called the ‘drawing room of Europe’ by Napoleon. Just for today though it is your ‘stage set’ and you can make your own treasure trove of special memories.
Maybe you walk into San Marco from a narrow Calle and suddenly find yourself in this contrasting wide open space with some of the most special, unique, architecture in history. Maybe you approach by boat, walking along the Riva degli Schiavoni and into the smaller Piazetta which leads into the main square.Suddenly you see the golden glory of the Basilica. It doesn’t matter how you approach Piazza San Marco. Whichever way you will catch your breath at your first glimpse of this ‘site of sites’.

Palazzos shimmer and shine with reflection from the water and the shape of the reflected building moves in the water.
